“It may well be that we will have to repent in this generation. Not merely for the vitriolic words and the violent actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence and indifference of the good people who sit around and say, "Wait on time.” ― Martin Luther King Jr. - A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches
Responsorial Psalm
PS 72:1-2, 3-4AB, 7-8, 17
R. Justice shall flourish in his
time, and fullness of peace for ever.
O God, with your judgment endow the
king,
and with your justice, the king’s son;
He shall govern your people with
justice
and your afflicted ones with judgment.
R. Justice shall flourish in his
time, and fullness of peace for ever.
The mountains shall yield peace for
the people,
and the hills justice.
He shall defend the afflicted among
the people,
save the children of the poor.
R. Justice shall flourish in his
time, and fullness of peace for ever.
Justice shall flower in his days,
and profound peace, till the moon be
no more.
May he rule from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the
earth.
R. Justice shall flourish in his
time, and fullness of peace for ever.
May his name be blessed forever;
as long as the sun his name shall
remain.
In him shall all the tribes of the
earth be blessed;
all the nations shall proclaim his
happiness.
R. Justice shall flourish in his
time, and fullness of peace for ever.
Today’s scriptures from Mass remind us
that to prepare for the coming of Christ we must look for Jesus where perhaps
we least expect to find him. Jesus is right before us, once more beseeching our
help, in the stranger, in immigrants and refugees, in the poor and homeless, in
all those who, like Joseph and Mary and Jesus, are in need of hospitality.
Are our hearts open to receive them?
Are our hands ready to help?
