One night a man came to our house and
told me, “There is a family with eight children. They have not eaten for days,”
I took some food and I went. When I finally came to the family, I saw the faces
of those little children disfigured by hunger. There were no sorrow or sadness
in their faces, just the deep pain of hunger. I gave the rice to the mother.
She divided it in two, and went out, carrying half the rice with her. When she
came back, I asked her, “Where did you go?” She gave me this simple answer, “To
my neighbors-they are hungry also.”
I was not surprised that she gave–because
poor people are generous. But I was surprised that she knew they were hungry.
As a rule, when we are suffering, we are so focused on ourselves we have no
time for others. – Mother Teresa (1910 – 1997: Founded

Gospel
Text: (MT 6:1-6, 16-18)
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Take care not to perform
righteous deeds
in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense
from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms, do not blow a
trumpet before you,
as the hypocrites do in the synagogues
and in the streets
to win the praise of others.
Amen, I say to you, they have received
their reward.
But when you give alms,
do not let your left hand know what
your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret
will repay you.
"When you pray, do not be like
the hypocrites,
who love to stand and pray in the
synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you, they have received
their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner
room, close the door,
and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret
will repay you.
"When you fast, do not look
gloomy like the hypocrites.
They neglect their appearance,
so that they may appear to others to
be fasting.
Amen, I say to you, they have received
their reward.
But when you fast, anoint your head
and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to others
to be fasting,
except to your Father who is hidden.
And your Father who sees what is
hidden will repay you."
It is not bad to aspire for a
comfortable life. But as we work for it, especially as we achieve it, let us
not ignore our brothers and sisters who do not have the capacity or opportunity
or resources to have the same. It is our responsibility to share with others
cheerfully and generously so that they do not get left behind.
Just a beautiful post all around
