“The single largest pool of untapped resource in this world is human good intentions that never translate into action”

The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, the fruit of service is peace. - Mother Teresa

(Scripture Text: Jas 2:14-18)
What good is it, my brothers and sisters,
if someone says he has faith but does not have works?
Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister has nothing to wear
and has no food for the day,
and one of you says to them,
"Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, "
but you do not give them the necessities of the body,
what good is it?
So also faith of itself,
if it does not have works, is dead.

Indeed someone might say,
"You have faith and I have works."
Demonstrate your faith to me without works,
and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.

“If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, " but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?”  This passage from James affirms two large issues.  One, words without action are pointless.  We can say we are Christians over and over again, but until we begin attempting to live our lives exemplifying Christ’s life, can we ever truly be Christian?

Second, the writer of James also seems to say that in order for actions to be relevant, the immediate needs of people need to be reached first and foremost.  The suffering of the millions of people in this world, who are without the necessities of life on a daily basis, is the main issue that Christians of today’s world must be willing to respond too. Jesus acted consistently for the betterment of people’s everywhere; so too today must Christians act for the betterment of humanity and work to have the basic needs of every human being be granted.

As Christians we are called to take up our cross and follow Jesus.  In so doing, we are also called to help lift the crosses of our brothers and sisters who are struggling to walk under their own burdens.

Action is where change begins, and Christianity exists where actions take place.
