Where sin abounds - Grace abound more! - The story is still being written - But I know how it ends

Today at Holy Mass St Paul in the first reading in a letter to the Romans speaks about how God’s ways are clearly not our ways......More reason why through grace, we must allow God to form us……This requires cooperation on our part - Our will must bend in obedience - Now there is a “bad word” - Obedience.....….”Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor? Or who has given him anything that he may be repaid? For from him and through him and for him are all things.”……For as “smart” and “advanced” as mankind is, isn’t it amazing how we can “screw everything up”….This cycle happens time and time again throughout history….Don’t believe me? - Just look around you….And when mankind screws everything up beyond all measure - God steps in - He always does - But usually not how we “think” he will….We see this throughout the pages of the Old Testament…How the ancient Israelites abandon God and their society falls apart….And then from the ashes of a broken society, God raises up something new……St Paul today reminds us that we do and will not always understand what God is doing……… “How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor?”….But don’t for a second think God does not see what is going on and trust me - God will have his hand in correcting it……That however will probably not happen the way we “think” it will or should happen…..But make no mistake - God will respond……Man plans and God laughs is the old saying….Mankind in his hubris “believes” he is in control….How foolish that mindset is…But sadly, we all fall into it to a certain degree…..Jesus tells us in the Beatitudes…..”Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me……..We are also told by St Luke……..”For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light”……God’s ways are not our ways but make no mistake - God sees everything and God will respond - Its for us to make sure we are on the “right side” of God, when he does respond.

“If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, says the Lord”

How do you identify?….This is a question that is asked a lot these days and how we answer that question will determine many things…..Do we simply identify as children of God?…….As Roman Catholics?….Because if we do - We will see the world a certain way and also live a certain way…If we are moored in the Holy Spirit and the teachings of the Church….We clearly will live differently then "the crowd"…And frankly that is a good thing…..And for those who “choose another path” - Who turn from God, the Natural Law and the will of God clearly laid out for us in the pages of the Bible and in 2000 years of Catholic Teaching….What happens to them as a result of taking that path?….Their intellect is darkened and their will is weakened…This is what we see all around us today……Without the Grace of God - We do not "see" as we should.....And only God can “fix” that but first we must give our YES and cooperate……..Many years ago when I was in Kolkata, India I went to a lecture by a brilliant Jesuit (Fr Lawerence Abello SJ), who was addressing the existence of God through the proofs of St Thomas Aquinas…Fr Abello’s presentation was amazing - Perfect in every way - It could not have been better presented, dare I say by anyone in the world…I bring this up because I attended this lecture with a friend of mine from Spain…Emilio was a brilliant engineer, who each year would travel to Kolkata to serve the poor. Over the years we became good friends…With all that said, I assumed Emilio was “on board” with Catholic teaching…..I soon found out otherwise…After we both attended this lecture we went to lunch…..At lunch I said to him how I thought the lecture was amazing…And he says to me....…”I do not agree with Father Abello’s math”…....I was shocked…....Emilio was a brilliant guy and served the poor each and every year with Mother Teresa’s sisters - How could he not agree with what Father Abello just taught us in the lecture about the existence of God?!?…..This is one small example of what I am taking about, how sin darkens the intellect and weakens the will…Emilio was a brilliant guy in his own right but his intelligence, which could not be disputed by anyone had nothing to do with him “not understanding” what Fr Abello was teaching us…It was his life’s choices, which "turned him away" from God’s Grace - Which in turn darkened his intellect….This is where we are at in America and across Western Civilization today…We live in a Post-Christian society…....How can we expect our people to choose the right politicians, public servants and laws when we have in so many ways adamantly turned from God?……America has become blind….And only God can give us back our sight

For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. They shall dwell in the land and own it, and the descendants of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall inhabit it.

Today in the first readings at Mass, St Paul reminds us how God in so many ways is a mystery to us…..Just when we “think” we figured everything out, God throws a “curve ball” at us…..Do we “think” we know better than God?…That is the question we must ask ourself….Are we obedient to the teachings of the Church and to the Natural law, which is written on every human heart?…..If we are not, we are basically saying to God with our actions - “I know better then you”…..That is what we say, whether we realize it or not…And for those who have “eyes to see” and are objective - How is that approach working out?……St Paul tells us….”Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!”….Yet, this knowledge and wisdom is ignored……And as we say in New Jersey - “Then you get what you get”……So the cycle continues and history repeats itself…….Mankind “thinks” he knows better….And as a result everything around us falls apart……But remember this - Where sin abounds - Grace abound more! - The story is still being written - But I know how it ends………………..JMJ
