This is our road map - The will of God……Not “seeing” what is in front of us should not prevent us from putting one foot in-front of the other….God knows the way….Put your hand on his shoulder and keep stepping!

Today at Holy Mass we hear in the first reading from a Letter to the Hebrews about Abraham, the father of a nation and a man of great faith……”By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; he went out, not knowing where he was to go”…….Abraham was a man of great faith, yet as Scripture tells us, he was unsure where God was leading him…But here is the key…It did not matter that he did not know where God was leading him - Abraham simply trusted and went forth anyway…And so must we!…….God used Abraham when he was a very old man to do the impossible, to be the father of a nation…Abraham did not ask for the details - He just did what was put in front of him…Scripture tells us he “obeyed” - There is that dirty word again - “Obeyed”……We too do not know where God is leading us, we do not know what today will bring never mind what the future will hold…Like Abraham we need to trust and take the next step in order to make tomorrow possible…Like a blind man, we must put our hand unto the shoulder of God and allow him to lead us…We all are so fixated with controlling everything…..There is no surer guide then God himself….He knows the way…..We need to learn to trust him and His Holy will

Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”

Before I was married I led a bible study at my Parish for many years…We would meet every Saturday Morning…One of the guys who attended was blind…His name was Jim and he worked as a bagger at Shop Rite, his disability did not stop him from working…Jim was fearless and would not be defeated by life because of his lack of sight…When I would pick him up at his house Saturday mornings, he would place is hand on my shoulder and I would lead him to the car and then to the door of the Church…Sometimes I would reflect upon how Jim trusted me…He simply put is hand on my shoulder and walked, one step after the other…Jim did not know where he was going but trusted we would get there…This is how I need to be…To trust God blindly!….To simply put my hand upon God’s shoulder, trust in his will, do my part and KNOW at the end of it all we will arrive at the final destination…What prevents us from trusting God in this manner?…Do we think we know better?…Getting back to my friend Jim…Jim was not born blind, he went blind as an adult and he accepted his handicap and kept stepping forward….I admired Jim tremendously and when he passed away I wept at the funeral Mass…He was a fearless man who would not allow life to defeat him…Jim trusted…He put one foot in front of him and kept moving forward not knowing where he was going but knew he would get there…This is how I need to be…I tried to learned from Jim - I am still trying…..God knows the way…..We need to learn to trust him and His Holy will

“So it was that there came forth from one man, himself as good as dead, descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sands on the seashore”

Today at Mass we heard about Abraham…He was the father of a nation and God used him to do great things…But the interesting thing about our story today is Abraham the entire time did not know where God was leading him…And that did not matter because he knew the one who was leading him knew where to go…This is how we need to think…….We must strive to do the will of God with absolute trust in the outcome…..This is our road map - The will of God……Not “seeing” what is in front of us should not prevent us from putting one foot in-front of the other….God knows the way….Put your hand on his shoulder and keep stepping!
